Along with the spring season, comes the common saying, “let’s have a spring clean.” The most common response to this proverb is a groan of resistance. However, once you get into the spring clean spirit, you start to see how tidy and refreshed your home and your wardrobe can be.
At James Morton Ties, we understand the importance of a well-kept tie. In relation to the spring season, we have arranged a number of helpful tips to help you refresh your ties. Scavenge through your wardrobe and restore your old ties.
It happens. Clothes are thrown into the wardrobe and forgotten. One day, you open the cupboard, dive a hand in and then suddenly you retrieve a shirt you forgot you owned. Memories flood back and you remember you bought the shirt last year in the sale and you loved it. However on closer inspection you realise the shirt has an odd musty smell and this is usually caused by dust and other trapped odours in the wardrobe.
This smelly effect can happen with ties too. With their small size they can easily fall from hangars and be lost within the dark depths of the wardrobe.
To refresh the smell of your tie, hang the tie where it can have some fresh air and expel some of that musty smell.
If you find hanging your tie in some fresh air does not entirely refresh your tie then you can wash it. Use a sweet smelling fabric softener to cleanse the material.
Remember to check what cleaning requirements your particular tie needs as there are different cleaning recommendations for different materials. It is important to find the correct washing temperature as it can have a negative effect on the shape of the tie.
Here are some details to keep you silk, polyester and other custom ties looking their best!
If your tie gets forgotten in the depths of your wardrobe, it may not return entirely unscathed. Wrinkles. Wrinkles can be a major no-no on a tie. A wrinkled tie can undermine your whole appearance.
There are a couple of easy solutions to flatten out this issue. Try hanging your tie because proper hanging can naturally straighten the material. If the wrinkle status is quite severe it may be more appropriate to move onto an immediate solution.
You can iron a tie but you must be careful to avoid damaging the tie’s shape and the material. Before you start ironing, cover the tie with a clean material to protect it from the direct heat of the iron. Use a low heat temperature. If the tie is silk or polyester, the temperature should not be higher than 140 degrees. Always consult the small information label beforehand.
Generally it is better to avoid ironing a tie because although you want to flatten out the wrinkles, the heat of the iron can potentially damage the material. If you are going to iron, iron with care.
To ensure your tie retains its shape and is protected from wrinkles, you need to look after your tie. After a hard day at work, it is difficult to resist the temptation to scrabble out of the tie and disregard it to the floor. Careful hanging of the tie over a chair or on a hanger is a simple solution.
If you have many ties and you are struggling to organise the tie chaos then it may be worth to invest in a tie rack. This can be a special place for your ties to hang comfortably and they will last longer.
