Ties have been both a practical and fashion accessory for many years. The manufacturing process involved in tie making is the art of taking raw fibres such as silk, polyester, wool cotton and other materials and creating beautifully designed products such as neckties, bow ties and cravats.
It all starts with the design of the tie and this can take time. First it starts with developing an ideas, which can either come from the client or our in-house designers can work with them to create a design for them. After the design has been decided upon, samples are produced and this continues until the final design is agreed and orders are booked.
Tie design
The design of the tie was traditionally hand drawn, but now ties are designed on computers to ensure a faster and easier delivery for the weavers. When the design is complete the weavers use computerised silk screens for silk ties instead of using manual silk screens that were used in the past. Once the design has been completed and confirm, it is sent to the mill where it is imprinted onto bolts of silk.
Tie production
Woven ties are made using a loom, while our quality silk ties are made on a jacquard loom, Printed ties are usually screen printed and digital printed. The fabric used will depend on the design, price and target market and the level of quality required will usually determine which method is used.
The difference between woven silk ties and printed ties is the feel. Printed ties are smoother and appear flusher, while the weave can be felt with woven ties. Woven ties are also heavier than printed ties because of the solid body provided.
