Dressing For The Grand National

One of the most famous horse races in the world, the Grand National, will be taking place at Liverpool’s Aintree Racecourse on the 9 April.

Every year we see thousands of people descend on the racecourse dressed in their finest apparel. Women wear beautiful frocks and impressive hats, while men wear their best cut suits and ties.

For men

Men will mostly wear their more elegant suits, usually navy or grey and usually they are single breasted with two buttons (remember to keep the second button undone at all times). Combine that with a tonal coloured shirt maybe a different tone of marine blue or a solid white or grey to contrast against the suit.

One of the most important decisions for men is what type of tie to wear. For this type of event either a bow tie or a sports club tie can be worn, together with a pocket square to compliment but not necessarily match.

The tie and pocket square can express your own personal style and if you want to represent your sports club or racing club, the Grand National is the perfect occasion to do it in style.

For Ladies

Ladies Day is a big event at the Grand National and ladies always look their best for the day. Everything depends on the dress, and once you have chosen your colours it is all about accessorising.

Make sure your hat matches your dress in colour and style. But an important accessory, especially with the weather remaining chilly, is a beautiful scarf to keep you warm as well as looking good. A silk scarf would complete your elegant look and give you an outfit to make heads turn.

So, make your plans and prepare your look, because the Grand National as always promises to be an event that should not be missed.
